PAWS FOR LAWS
Kudos goes to the California Federation of Dog Clubs, especially VP Judythe
Coffman, for their tireless efforts to stop MSN in Kern County.
I know Judythe drove countless miles to attend meetings, meet with the
animal control folks and supervisors for over two years, and more frequently
this year. Their efforts were to not only defeat MSN, but to bring some
semblance of a balanced solution to the problems of Kern County. This is
definitely one for our side. Great Job, Judythe, Great job CFODC.

ALERT!
Kern County Board of Supervisors VOTES NO on Mandatory Spay/Neuter Proposal
We are happy to report that the vote by the Board of Supervisors was a
unanimous 'no' to a mandatory spay/neuter requirement in Kern County.
All but one of the supervisors were present for the vote on June 10, 2008,
which was reached despite the presence of some "big guns" brought in from
other areas to influence the vote. Supporters of MSN included
the western director of HSUS, representatives from In Defense of Animals and
other extremist animal rights and rescue groups from LA and Orange counties,
only three of whom actually live in Kern County.
Those speaking in opposition, including Judythe Coffman (VP-CFODC) and
Janice Anderson (Director - CFODC and Kern Co. AC commissioner), were all
residents of the county. Ms. Coffman and Ms. Anderson worked for almost 2
years behind the scenes attending AC commission meetings, educational
events, meeting with other dog fanciers and the supervisors to give them
much documented factual information which ultimately resulted in the defeat
of the MSN. The supervisors have instructed staff to come up with a plan to
increase licensing compliance and a program for low cost S/N. CFODC's board
and directors all work quietly and tirelessly to defeat the animal rights
agenda as it continues to encroach upon our rights and infest our society
with its anti-animal legislation. This particular issue was not an easy
victory and we would like to thank our CFODC Vice President, Judythe
Coffman, and Director, Janice Anderson, for their dedication and hard work
over the past two years to achieve this success. In addition, Janice has
been appointed to a
newly created task force designed to explore ways to improve licensing
compliance and provide a more accurate means of recording shelter statistics
within the county.
Each success strengthens us as we continue to fight this insidious war. We
are all a part of it and together we will win.
Onward and upward!
